The 200-megawatt solar facility will participate in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas market and will have 80 megawatts of battery storage.

According to the release, the project, titled Big Star, will secure $30 million in taxes in Bastrop County over the project’s 30-year lifetime. The system also aims to increase power grid stability as a backup power source.

Big Star is one of three RWE battery energy storage projects to be brought online this year in the United States. Commercial operation of the facility is expected in March.
