A new apartment complex is breaking ground just east of Cedar Creek High School at 691 Union Chapel Road, Cedar Creek. Now underway, construction is expected to be completed in early 2025.

Sorting out the details

Plans for the 291-unit multifamily affordable housing complex include a fitness center, dog park and swimming pool. In March 2020, The Texas Housing Foundation contracted the property located 10 miles from Bastrop and 13 miles from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the property Dec. 20, 2023.

“We're in the Christmas season right now where everybody really enjoys the beauty of a home—the safety and security of a home,” Texas Housing Foundation Chief Executive Officer Mark Mayfield said at the groundbreaking ceremony. “A lot of us can take that for granted, but there [are] many that can't and it has been my heart ever since just to try to change that.”

The background

Bastrop County joined the Texas Housing Foundation in 2018. The Texas Housing Foundation is a Texas regional public housing authority created to build, manage and provide services to affordable housing projects.

“You're gonna see something that you are going to be proud of in this community,” Mayfield said at the ceremony.
