The Agnes Street extension project in Bastrop could be getting an additional connecting road to the street, pending final Bastrop City Council approval.

The gist

Planning and design consulting company Kimley-Horn will design a plan to connect Blacktail Drive to Agnes Street, following unanimous council approval April 22 to amend their current contract to include the connection. Kimley-Horn will begin designing immediately, according to agenda documents.

City staff are including Blacktail Drive to “improve overall mobility” of traffic in the area, according to agenda documents.

Kimley-Horn is tasked only with creating the design, not the construction, and will provide an estimated cost of the project to the council. If the council approves the design, the contract will be amended to include the Blacktail Drive extension in Kimley-Horn’s design and construction phase services.

Blacktail Drive is currently at the end of a neighborhood area just south of Agnes Street. The extension of Blacktail Drive would be a two-lane undivided section with a sidewalk on the east and west parkways, according to agenda documents.

About the Agnes Street project

The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in the area and to provide more access to nearby apartments and businesses, as the region faces a growing population, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The city began making progress on the project in late 2021 and broke ground for the construction project in February.

One more thing

Assistant City Manager Andres Rosales said the extension project is ahead of schedule, and he is working to get a completion date in the near future. Completion is expected sometime late 2025, as previously reported by Community Impact.
