Notable quote

"Bridge repairs at this crucial interchange were a priority for TxDOT and its contractor," Barker said. "Crews worked tirelessly to complete repairs and reopen the bridge. "

How we got here

Restorations to the bridge started after it was damaged by a towed construction excavator on April 24, according to an announcement by officials with Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 2.

Traffic was diverted on both sides of the highway near the bridge into the evening while crews worked to clean the roads of debris.

The bridge remained closed throughout the repairs. On July 10, additional closures began, including the eastbound lanes of SH 21 and Hwy. 290 at the intersection, said Kellen Mohrmann, an area representative for TxDOT.
