Bastrop City Council will consider two change orders April 14 tied to the Old Iron Bridge rehabilitation project.
Totaling $552,003.88, the proposed changes include a new walking surface at both ends of the bridge and a stair connection to the riverwalk below.
What’s happening?
Change Order No. 1 would swap the latex-modified concrete originally planned for the walking surface at both ends of the bridge with Polyester Polymer Concrete Overlay, or PPC Overlay, for a not-to-exceed cost of $217,386.
City documents state that latex-modified concrete was included in the issued-for-bid plan set because it is commonly used on area bridge decks, but staff said it does not provide adequate slip resistance for a pedestrian bridge and is not considered aesthetically appropriate for a future park setting.
Change Order No. 2 would add a stairway connecting the bridge at street level to the riverwalk below for a not-to-exceed cost of $334,617.88. The stairway is intended to improve pedestrian access and connectivity between the Main Street District and the June Hill Pape Riverwalk trail, according to agenda documents.
What’s next?
Both change orders would be paid for through the project contingency. If approved, the project contingency would total $1.42 million, according to city documents.
City Council will consider the items at its April 14 meeting at Bastrop City Hall, 1311 Chestnut St., Bastrop, at 6:30 p.m.
