Plans are moving forward for upgraded bleachers at the Mayfest Park Rodeo Arena in Bastrop—a project city officials believe will help improve the overall visitor experience for spectators at local rodeos and other community events.
The details
Bastrop City Council will consider a $126,600 purchase order with North Carolina Welding during a March 10 meeting.
It will be paid for with series 2025 certificates of obligation, according to city documents.
Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino told council members in a staff report that the upgraded bleachers are “a sore need,” as several spectators often have to stand due to the limited seating.
Two other bids were submitted for the project, including:
- Connecticut-based Anthem Sports, $173,313
- Florida-based The Park Catalog, $201,199
Also of noteWith the upgraded bleachers at the Mayfest Park Rodeo Arena carrying a price tag of $85,000, the remaining $41,600 will be applied toward enhanced seating at additional parks, including:
- Rusty Reynolds Fields
- Fireman’s Parks
The outlookDuring a Jan. 27 meeting, the city of Bastrop approved a $477,110 purchase order for shade covers at the Mayfest Park Rodeo Arena that will cover the seating and pen areas, according to city documents.
Carrillo-Trevino previously told Bastrop City Council that she would like the shade covers, upgraded bleachers and associated concrete work to be completed in time for the 2026 Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo, which will be held July 28-Aug. 1.
