The Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center could get an upgraded roof.

Although the project was previously estimated to cost $325,000, the expected price tag is now $117,510, according to city documents.

The details

Nations Roof, the lowest bidder, will oversee the repairs if Bastrop City Council approves a contract during an Oct. 21 meeting.

“The roof of the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center has experienced significant weathering and deterioration of its protective surface,” Doug Haggerty, fleet and facilities director, said in a staff report. “Staff has evaluated several options for roof rehabilitation and determined that a restorative silicone roof coating system is the most cost-effective and durable approach for extending the roof’s service life.”

Nations Roof’s proposal features:
  • Full cleaning and surface preparation
  • Application of a 100% silicone coating system
  • Flashing and seam treatment
  • Installation of fixed roof access ladders
  • A 20-year manufacturer’s material and labor warranty
  • A two-year contractor labor warranty
What we know

The adopted fiscal year 2025-26 budget allocated $985,000 for needed repairs to the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center, according to city documents.

The more than 32,000 square feet in repairs for the roof would be funded through the city’s hotel occupancy tax fund balance of approximately $3 million, according to city documents.

The outlook

The long-term plan for the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center is for the building to become a recreation center—a transition that would happen if Bastrop West, a 400-acre mixed-use development that would feature several new facilities, is constructed, according to city officials.

“I want to make sure that it is in good condition,” Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino said during her State of the City address in early September. “The last thing I want to turn over is a building that is in disrepair, that we've not managed to upkeep well.”
