Additional improvements will be included in the Agnes Street extension project in Bastrop, as Bastrop City Council approved a change order during a special meeting Oct. 14.

The details

This fourth change order is broken down into two parts:
  • Removing existing blocks, grade, form and pour rip rap on eight existing inlets
  • Shifting the median to the east to allow for a left-turn lane to 26 feet of public access
“With the widening of Agnes Street, [the previous] style of inlet no longer allows storm water to flow from the street to the inlet as it was intended,” Elizabeth Wick, a project manager with the city of Bastrop, said in a staff report. “The modified inlet will convey flows as designed in the construction plans.”

With the approval of a fourth change order, the construction contract for the Agnes Street extension project now totals approximately $3.5 million, according to city documents.

Since the start of construction in February, there have been three other change orders for:
  • Relocation of a fire hydrant assembly and upgrades to a storm junction box at the Orchard Parkway connection
  • Modification of curb ramps at Future Orchard Parkway to address comments from a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation report
  • Connection of Blacktail Drive to Agnes Street, and the addition of mill and inlay at the intersection of Hwy. 304
Some background

Bastrop City Council approved the Agnes Street extension project in December 2023 to reduce traffic congestion in and increase access to the growing number of nearby apartments and businesses south of Hwy. 71, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The extension is also expected to reduce the response time of first responders by providing an alternate route, according to city officials.

The outlook

The Agnes Street extension project—funded by a Texas General Land Office Community Development Grant awarded in May 2021—is scheduled to finish construction in December, according to city documents.
