It represents the culmination of ideas and priorities that residents, business owners and local partners have shared over the past year through workshops, surveys and public meetings over the past year.
The approach
The Resilient Communities Comprehensive Plan—managed by Langford Community Management Services and funded by a Texas General Land Office grant—is organized into five sections:“This plan ensures the community’s long-term sustainability, safety and well-being and local cultural preservation,” the preliminary draft states.
What we know
City officials have requested continued public input—which can be submitted by clicking and adding a marker, or using the top navigation bar to review each section individually—before the document is finalized.
“Your feedback at this stage is essential as we move toward the final plan presentation and adoption,” city officials said in a statement. “Let’s build a stronger, more resilient and connected Smithville together.”
What residents are saying
Several residents have already submitted their requests, including those to:
- Market Smithville’s charm with targeted tourism, signature festivals and business support
- Bring affordable housing to Smithville for senior citizens
- Build a pedestrian and vehicle railroad overpass at Hill Street and Old Lake Road
- Offer rides for Smithville residents to reach care, food and essentials
A final draft of the Resilient Communities Comprehensive Plan will be presented at a future Smithville City Council meeting.
