Bastrop ISD officials announced all schools in the district will be closed on Jan. 21 ahead of the anticipated winter weather. The school was already closed on Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The closure also includes all before- and after-school activities, according to a news release.

The Jan. 21 board of trustees meeting, when officials were expected to approve new school boundaries, has been rescheduled to Jan. 28.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Bastrop through 6 p.m. on Jan. 21, and a cold weather advisory until noon on Jan. 22, as of publication time.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, said high electric demand and potentially lower power reserves are anticipated; however, officials do not anticipate an emergency event, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The warming shelter at Calvary Episcopal Church in Bastrop has been reopened nightly from 8:30 p.m.-7 a.m.Pastor Roland Nava of In The Streets Hands Up High Ministries, opened a separate warming shelter and soup kitchen.Those who would like to be added to the city’s at-risk list, or have a family member added, can contact the Bastrop Fire Department at 512-332-8670 or the Bastrop Police Department at 512-332-8600. Those on the at-risk list will be checked on periodically by city emergency responders, according to Bastrop Public Information Officer Colin Guerra.
