Bastrop County grants tax abatement incentive to multibillion-dollar data center

Bastrop County is in the running to house a $5 billion data center campus after commissioners offered developers a 10-year property tax abatement during a Dec. 9 meeting.

Some context


Located at the northeast corner of FM 535 and Wolf Lane in Cedar Creek, the 112-acre lot was previously earmarked for a more than 2,000-home subdivision.

Commissioners expressed their support to pivot plans to the data center. Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus noted that the subdivision would have required additional costs to employ more first responders and would have increased traffic congestion.

Commissioners request Foreign Trade Zone tax exemptions for SpaceX

Bastrop County’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp, or SpaceX, is on its way to qualifying for tax exemptions.

In a nutshell

Following approval from the commissioner's court at a Dec. 9 meeting, Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus sent a letter of support to the Foreign Trade Zones of Central Texas to encourage officials to grant SpaceX an FTZ designation.

Bastrop city attorney resigns effective Dec. 31

The city of Bastrop is poised to find new legal representation following Bastrop City Attorney Alan Bojorquez’s resignation after seven years in the position. His last day to serve the city will be Dec. 31.


The details

At a Dec. 10 regular meeting, Bastrop City Council voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Bojorquez and the Bojorquez Law Firm, as recommended by city staff. The council also directed City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino to coordinate the transition of services, according to city documents.
