Road closures along FM 969 are in place while officials work to repair a damaged gas line near the Colony Oaks subdivision.

Two-minute impact

City officials confirmed in the early afternoon of Dec. 10, contractors were working in the subdivision when a gas line was hit.

As a result, traffic is shut down along FM 969, between Blakey Lane and Sam Houston Drive.

Lyndsey Schroeder, Bastrop County public information officer, said lanes should reopen around 7 p.m.

Bastrop ISD sent a letter to parents with students at Colony Oaks Elementary letting them know drop-off delays would be likely as school bus routes had to be altered to bypass the road closures in and out of the area. Parents picking up their children were asked to use one of the following neighborhood entrances:
  • SH 71 at Stephen F. Austin Boulevard
  • FM 1209 at Stephen F. Austin Boulevard
  • FM 1209 at Wagon Way
What else?

Unrelated road closures on FM 969 are planned from 8 p.m. on Dec. 10 through 5 a.m. on Dec. 11, said Colin Guerra, Bastrop public information officer.

The closure will wrap up a project to lay wastewater pipelines connecting areas north of FM 969 to the new wastewater treatment plant.

The biggest area to be connected so far is around Hyperloop Plaza—home to several companies owned by Elon Musk.

In September, Bastrop city and county officials confirmed with Community Impact that infrastructure updates are needed to accommodate the addition of Musk's social media company X—formerly known as Twitter.

The relocation of X will mark the fifth Bastrop-based company owned by Musk, with the other facilities including The Boring Company, Boring Bodega, SpaceX's Starlink, and his soon-to-open Montessori school, Ad Astra.
