Since 1984, the National Night Out Campaign has promoted community camaraderie between neighbors and local first responders.
On Oct. 1, two block parties in Bastrop will offer food, games and more.
Bastrop Night Out
Bastrop Evening Lions Club and Kerr Community Center officials are teaming up to host this year's Bastrop Night Out at the Kerr Community Center Park.
The details
Designed to bring local law enforcement and other first responders together with the community in a positive environment, the free neighborhood party will offer:
- Food
- Games
- Empty-bowl painting—which benefits the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.
- Karaoke

Tahitian Village National Night Out
The Tahitian Village Property Owners Association will host a neighborhood block party at the Bastrop River Club.
The details
Pam Ferguson, TVPOA administrative assistant, said representatives from the Bastrop Police and Fire Departments, as well as Emergency Medical Services representatives, will have fun with community members.
Activities will include:
- Food catered by Smoked Love
- Live music by Joe Bob's Bar & Grill Band
- Face painting
- Cornhole games
Donations for the Bastrop County Animal Shelter will be accepted including:
- Dog and cat food
- Cat litter
- Pet treats
- Pet toys
- Leashes
- Blankets
- Towels
- New or used crates
A top baker contest will also be offered, where residents can bring homemade sweets for judging and eating.
Officials said prizes will be offered for first through third place, and the desserts will be shared with attendees after judging has ended.
