The city of Bastrop will partner with H-E-B to host a day of free, American-themed fun downtown on June 29—complete with a parade, family-friendly activities, live music, snacks, drinks and fireworks.

The details

Bastrop’s annual Big Bang Celebration will begin with the Pet & Pal Parade downtown on Main Street with parade registration on the courthouse lawn at 8:30 a.m., followed by judging at 9:15 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m., where patriotic pets and their humans will show off their American pride.

“It is absolutely the cutest, shortest parade ever,” said event organizer Debbie Denny. “We’ve had every type of dog there is, as well as cats, owls, ponies, llamas, iguanas, ferrets and tortoises—you name it, they’ve probably been in our parade.”

Awards will be presented to parade participants in the following categories:

  • Most Unusual
  • Most Patriotic
  • Most Creative
  • Cutest Pet & Pal Couple
  • Best Group
  • Best Non-Motorized vehicle
  • Best Overal

The festivities at Fisherman’s Park, 1200 Willow St., will kick off at 6 p.m. culminating with a 15-minute fireworks display set to music at sunset.

“It is an adorable slice of small-town Americana,” said Colin Guerra, city of Bastrop Public Information Manager.

Eventgoers can enjoy:

  • Live music
  • Food vendors
  • Bounce houses
  • Sprinklers
  • Games

What else?

Guerra said attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and coolers to the celebration.

“Bring your pets and kids, and come have fun,” said Bastrop Main Street Director Michaela Joyce.

One more thing

Guerra said parking within Fisherman’s Park will be limited, and recommended parking elsewhere for those able to walk to the park. Those unable to do so are encouraged to use a drop-off location, via ridesharing or other modes of transportation, at the intersection of Farm and Willow streets. Officials said it is important to note that traffic flow will be one-way through the park during the event.
