Bastrop ISD officials selected the inaugural principal for the district’s newest school, Adelton Elementary School.

In a nutshell

Serving as the current assistant principal at Bluebonnet Elementary School, Denise Guerrero will transition into her new role to prepare for Adelton’s opening in August.

“[Guerrero] is an exceptional leader and is committed to fostering an academically challenging, yet nurturing environment for students and families. We are confident that under her direction, Adelton Elementary will build a strong foundation for success and inspire every child to reach their full potential,” said Superintendent Barry Edwards in a news release.

Career history


With 20 years of experience, Guerrero has also worked as the assistant principal for BISD’s Emile Elementary School and Elgin ISD’s Booker T. Washington Elementary School, according to the release. Throughout her career, Guerrero has:
  • Developed programs focused on instructional gains, positive behavior and character development
  • Supported dual language and bilingual education
  • Coordinated state assessments, master schedules and safety drills
  • Provided instructional support for teachers

“I am beyond excited and incredibly honored to have been selected to serve as the new principal of Adelton Elementary,” Guerrero said in the release. “I look forward to getting to know each and every one of my students and staff as we embark on this exciting chapter. I am ready to get started.”
