An affiliation agreement between Bastrop ISD and Angelo State University will allow master’s of social work students to gain clinical experience at schools within the district as interns.

Due to the expiration of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds, the district will reduce the number of social workers in BISD schools for fiscal year 2024-25.

“We are seeking to continue supporting our students by bringing additional social worker interns to our campuses,” said Janel Morris, the director of student services at BISD.

What to expect

Three social worker interns from Angelo State University overseen by five BISD social workers are expected for the 2024-25 academic year.

BISD has similar partnerships with Texas State University and the University of Texas. Similar programs in the district have seen one to seven social worker interns each year, Morris said.
