The details
Steve Moore, the owner, named the business in memory of his mother, Judy Lockwood Moore.
“She always had the dream of opening up some kind of food establishment,” he told Community Impact. “She died in 2006 from scleroderma and never got to see that happen. I always promised myself that if I ever opened up any kind of food establishment, I would name it after her.”
Moore, 44, left a corporate job as an industrial painter—a role he held most of his adult life—and later chose to dedicate his free time to Judy’s Dogs.
“I’ve always liked cooking for people, and one day I was like, ‘I really want a good hot dog,’” he said. “So I bought a bunch of different ingredients and tried a few different things out.”
The menu
Judy’s Dogs’ menu currently includes:
- Chili mac dog: all-beef hot dog with house-made chili, house-made macaroni and cheese, and a choice of homemade cornbread bun or regular bun
- Basic chili cheese dog: all-beef hot dog with house-made chili and cheese, and the option to add onions
- Lobster roll dog: all-beef jumbo hot dog with lobster, mayo, herbs, dill and chives
- Basic dog: all-beef hot dog with choice of toppings, such as ketchup, mustard, dill relish, diced onions and jalapenos
Moore has another cart that he wants to place elsewhere in the community for pop-up events.
“I really want to make this work. I don’t want to see it fail,” he said. “It can be quite hard for a food business getting on its feet, but I think I have something that’s pretty unique. I think people should give it a shot.”
