The Mr. Brew Coffee crew started serving Bastrop residents at the former Carafe spot inside Community Gardens on July 15.

This is the first location by owner Jaime Astorga; however, he said he plans to open a second spot on Research Boulevard in North Austin soon.

On the menu

Mr. Brew Coffee's menu features classics like Americanos, drip, chai tea, hot and iced green and black teas, and lattes. The drinks can be customized with add-ons like flavored drizzles, milk alternatives, extra shots, or a soft top—a cold foam made with heavy cream and milk, available in flavors like pumpkin.

Other menu choices include:
  • Agua frescas, made daily
  • Snacks
  • Smoothies
  • Italian sodas

What's special about it?

Mr. Brew Coffee allows customers to create their own drinks. Patrons can choose a base, such as Red Bull, freshly crafted lemonade, Topo Chico or tea, and then add components like:
  • Mango Madness, made with mango and cucumber syrups, mango fruit pieces and mango boba
  • Sunburst, made with kiwi, peach, strawberry and watermelon syrups
  • Firecracker, made with pineapple, watermelon and strawberry syrups, topped with strawberry pieces, Tajin and a tamarind stick
These can be further customized with additional fruit, boba or more than 20 flavors of syrups, including sugar-free alternatives.

"It's a cool concept that you can't get at other coffee shops in town," said barista Liz Tapia.

Notable quote

"Our vision is to uplift and inspire with every cup we serve and every interaction we share," Astorga said. "We’re more than just a coffee shop – we’re a daily dose of positivity."

One more thing

Mr. Brew Coffee is one of two new dining options available at Community Gardens.

Over the summer, Astorga's mother, Sylvia Barragan, opened a sister restaurant to Casa Chapala called Chapala Fiestas inside the former Heroes restaurant.

"Both Heroes and Carafe will be moving aside for the Casa Chapala Group to take things over and improve the overall food and beverage operation—bringing their expertise, great service, delicious menus and expanded days and hours of operation," Community Gardens officials announced on the website earlier this year.
