Local couple Emanuel Pena and his wife Yuri Corral opened a family-oriented eatery specializing in crepes and coffees on Aug. 17 in Burleson Crossing.

The gist

Pena said they decided to open the casual eatery to provide a space for customers to get quality food whether they are grabbing a quick snack to go, eating a meal inside, or sipping on a coffee while their children enjoy the play area.

What's on the menu

Tecuen features a range of sweet and savory crepes. Customers can either create their own, or choose from one of the house specialties.

Those who want to build their own crepe can select from 22 components, including:
  • Honey
  • Nutella
  • Peanut butter
  • Condensed milk
  • Candied milk
  • Cream cheese
  • Mascarpone cremes
  • Housemade guava or berry jam
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Fruits
  • Candies
Savory crepes include ingredients like:
  • Prosciutto
  • Turkey
  • Ham
  • Pepperoni
  • Mushrooms
  • Spinach
  • Cheeses
  • Béchamel sauce
  • Tomatillo
Tecuen also offers coffees, teas, non-alcoholic bottled drinks and juices.

Pena said his team plans to add small-batch, scratch-made artisan popsicles using all-natural ingredients, as well.

What's in a name

The name "Tecuen" is derived from a place where Pena and Yuri Corral spent much of their time while dating.

"Our home state is Michoacán in Mexico," Pena said. "There's an island on Lake Pátzcuaro there called Tecuena—which means "good honey." We loved going there, eating ice cream and just having fun."

Notable quote

"It is important to us to do everything with care—quality, presentation, and the satisfaction of our customers and employees," Pena said. "We will start to introduce new items as we can, but we only introduce new items that we know [we] can do with high quality and consistency using the best ingredients we can find."
