The Cybertex Institute of Technology, an Austin-based vocational and training school, will begin serving Bastrop County residents when it opens its third campus in Smithville through a partnership with Career Tracks.

Cybertex will be housed in Career Tracks’ new Training Center, a facility that was completed in late 2025.
“We are honored to join the Smithville community and to be a part of the growing momentum in Bastrop County,” Mudassir Shaikh, school director of Cybertex’s Austin campus, said in a news release. “Our mission is to equip students with practical, hands-on training that leads directly to employment in high-demand fields.”

A building dedication ceremony was held Jan. 22 with several local officials in attendance, including state Rep. Stan Gerdes.
“This partnership is a huge step forward for workforce development in our region, bringing high-quality, hands-on training and career pathways closer to home for local residents,” he said in a statement posted to social media. “From medical assisting to [heating, ventilation and air conditioning] and beyond, this center represents real opportunity, collaboration and investment in our community’s future.”
What we know
Cybertex, which has two other campuses in Austin and Killeen, signed a 42-month lease with Career Tracks and will offer medical assistant and HVAC programs at its Smithville campus.
“Completing construction of the building, finalizing the lease and turning over the keys is more than a facility milestone—it’s the start of new opportunities for our residents to gain skills, earn credentials and step into great jobs here in our region,” Career Tracks Executive Director Janice Bruno said in the news release.
