Sept. 30 7th Annual Taste of Hays: Under the Tuscan Sun The annual Taste of Hays County will feature food tastings from more than 20 local restaurants as well as beer and wine, auctions and entertainment from local businesses. Sara was also former student at Hernandez Elementary School. Oct. 1 Fire Department Open House/National Night Out Kick Off The San Marcos Fire Department is celebrating National Fire Prevention Month with an open house. Interactive events and demonstrations help residents learn about fire prevention. The open house includes fire truck rides, a clown show about fire safety and a vehicle rescue demonstration. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., free hotdogs will be available. The San Marcos Police Department will also join the event to kick off National Night Out events later in the week. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free.
