After several months of construction, the new front entrance to Allen City Hall is complete.
Construction of the more than $631,000 renovation project at Allen City Hall was completed the week of May 22, said Chelsey Aprill, director of Allen’s Public and Media Relations office.
How we got here
The front entrance to Allen City Hall closed Dec. 17 for renovations including replacing the original front steps, adding a ramp for accessibility and updating the surrounding landscaping, per city documents.
The original front steps to City Hall were built in 2000 and had significant damage, Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said. In addition, individuals with mobility issues were using a ramp that went around the building, and although this was Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant, it created a barrier to those individuals, Flanigan said.
Allen City Council approved a contract with North Rock Construction & Associates for nearly $568,000 during a December meeting. The remaining funds came from the city's facilities maintenance fund, city documents state.

"With this creative project, we were able to transform our front door to be an 'entrance for all' that is also more beautiful for all," Flanigan said in an emailed statement.
