1. Allen police chief shares update on city's automated license plate reader program
Allen residents could see more automated license plate readers in the community in the future, Allen Police Chief Steve Dye said.
Dye shared an update on the city’s automated license plate reader program at a June 23 Allen City Council work session. The Allen Police Department uses automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, as a tool to enhance public safety, according to Dye’s presentation.

Interlocal agreement with Plano for library materials: As part of the consent agenda, council members approved an interlocal agreement between the cities of Allen and Plano for reciprocal lending of library materials. The two cities had a formal interlocal agreement for sharing library materials from 1992 to 2010 and have had an informal agreement since then, city documents state. This formally reestablishes the partnership for one year.
3. Revitalized 'entrance for all' debuts at Allen City Hall following $631K project
After several months of construction, the new front entrance to Allen City Hall is complete. Construction of the more than $631,000 renovation project at Allen City Hall was completed the week of May 22, said Chelsey Aprill, director of Allen’s Public and Media Relations office.
The front entrance to Allen City Hall closed Dec. 17 for renovations including replacing the original front steps, adding a ramp for accessibility and updating the surrounding landscaping, per city documents. The original front steps to City Hall were built in 2000 and had significant damage, Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said.

Buildings and Standards Commission amendment: The city’s Buildings and Standards Commission has historically made recommendations on the adoption of model codes and amendments to Allen City Council. City staff recommended that the administrative portion of the Allen Land Development Code be amended to comply with state law and clearly outline the role of the Buildings and Standards Commission.
5. City of Allen now accepting applications for board, commission appointments
Allen residents interested in serving on a city board or commission have an opportunity to share their interest with the city. Applications to serve on a city commission or board are now open.
Each year, Allen City Council appoints members to serve on city boards and commissions. Most board and commission members serve two-year terms with no term limits, and appointments are staggered to have half of each board appointed annually, the city’s website states.
“Serving on a board or commission is a great way to learn more about city government, share expertise and help guide decisions that shape the community,” a city news release states.
