BMK Pharma manufacturing, research facility coming to Allen following council approval

Pharmaceutical manufacturing company BMK Pharma is coming soon to Allen.

Allen City Council unanimously approved a zoning change request that allows BMK Pharma to operate a manufacturing and research facility near the intersection of Central Expressway and Exchange Parkway at an Aug. 11 meeting.

The specifics

The Allen Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of this change at a July 21 meeting. The building was previously zoned for shopping center uses, per city documents.

“Though this is a shopping center zoning district, if you all are familiar with the building, it is built in a little bit more of an industrial style,” Community Development Director Hayley Angel said to council members.

The zoning change allows the building to be used for “research, design, development, production, storage and sales of pharmaceutical products,” city documents state. The city’s development regulations stipulate that the building can also be used for office space, retail sales, warehouse uses and a laboratory with a Level 1 biosafety rating.

BMK Pharma produces sterile compounded medications to support health care providers, per the company’s website. The company works to “strengthen the health care supply chain and improve medication availability,” its website states.

Council held a public hearing for this item at the Aug. 11 meeting, but no residents spoke in favor or against the zoning change request.

Also of note

The company previously requested a similar zoning change for another property located directly to the south, Angel said.

“It is identical to the property there to the south and pretty well aligns with the area,” she said.
