School starts in Allen ISD in about two weeks, and district officials are planning to welcome thousands of students into classrooms. Here are some essentials to know for the upcoming school year.
1. Important dates:
- First day of school: Aug. 13
- Fall break: Oct. 12-14
- Thanksgiving break: Nov. 23-27
- Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1
- Spring break: March 15-19
- Last day of school: May 27, last day of instruction for students
- High school graduation: May 28, ceremony for Allen High School graduates
2. Class times:
- Elementary school: 7:45 a.m.-2:55 p.m.
- Middle school: 8:20 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
- Lowery Freshman Center: 8:45 a.m.-4:05 p.m.
- Allen High School: 8:50 a.m.-4:10 p.m.
3. Bus routes: The district operates a fleet of more than 130 buses that provide daily transportation to and from campuses for eligible students. Bus services are available for students who live two or more miles from their assigned school. Information on bus routes, times and eligibility can be found at www.allenisd.org/page/transportation-bus-stop-information. Parents can also access information on the My Ride K-12 app.
4. Lunch: Daily menus for meals offered at each AISD campus are available at www.allenisd.org/o/aisd/page/online-menus, or through the MealViewer app. For students with specific dietary needs, parents can visit the district’s website or contact [email protected]. Eligible parents can apply for free or reduced-price lunches at www.allenisd.org/o/aisd/page/free-and-reduced-price-meal-applications.
5. Student dress code: The districtwide dress code is outlined in the student handbook and offers guidance on standards required by the district. Some of the dress standards required of students by the dress code include:
- No pictures, emblems or writings that are offensive or include drug-related language
- No pants or shorts worn below the waist
- Students may wear ripped pants, athletic shorts, leggings and sleeveless shirts as long as they adhere to general dress standards for proper coverings

Tax-free weekend is Aug. 7-9. During that time, shoppers can make tax-free purchases from Texas businesses on eligible items priced less than $100, including most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks, according to the state comptroller’s website.
