The Leander ISD board of trustees continued discussion about attendance rezoning for Tom Glenn High School June 18, considering new proposed scenarios as well as flex lab additions. For several months, trustees have considered several possible rezoning scenarios for TGHS, which opens in 2016, but none of them have accounted for flex lab additions, or "flexible" spaces that provide additional capacity. Eight community members spoke to the board about attendance rezoning options during the public comment portion of the meeting, many of whom were residents of neighborhood code 2075, which includes the area west of Lakeline Boulevard, north of Buttercup Creek Boulevard and the west side of The Preserve neighborhood. Many residents voiced support for the newly presented Scenario Q, which would send children in neighborhood code 2075 to Cedar Park High School, a request made by parents during the presentation of Scenario N. LISD administration presented Scenario N. to the community during public feedback meetings hosted in May. Based on resident opinions submitted to LISD, administration fashioned several new scenarios, including Q. At the board’s July meeting, trustees plan to reach consensus about whether flex labs are the best option to consider, said Board President Pam Waggoner. If the board decides against flex labs, trustees could look at Scenario R, as well as other proposed scenarios that are derivatives of R, Waggoner said. “It comes down to flex labs,” said Superintendent Bret Champion. "If we want to build flex labs, then we probably need to take a different scenario out into the community. … If the goal is to bring every high school [in LISD] to the same capacity, then flex labs make a whole lot of sense. We just weren’t [initially] going with that as our paradigm.” To view all proposed scenarios and provide feedback, visit the attendance rezoning website.
