The new $7.5 million Katy City Hall is scheduled to open June 10 after a nearly two-month delay, city officials said.

Katy City Administrator Byron Hebert said a public celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 10 with a guest speaker, light refreshments and tours of the building.

The three-story, 33,000-square-foot building was originally scheduled to open April 22. However, a problem in acquiring fireproof doors and roofing materials pushed the target date back just under two months.

The materials were initially unavailable because they were on back order, but everything is now on target for the June opening, Herbert said.

“The shipping [of materials] is fine,” he said. “We took a few extra weeks to make sure it is finished.”

The fireproof doors are required by city zoning regulations, and without them, the building cannot open, Hebert said.

The new City Hall is located on Second Street between Avenue D and Avenue C. It is directly across the street from the multi-building complex that currently houses city staff offices.
