The city of Georgetown will temporarily close the north end of the
West Majestic Oaks Lane connection to Sun City just south of Apache Mountain Lane on Sept. 28.
The closure comes a year after residents of the
Woodland Park neighborhood began petitioning the city to close the connection because of excessive traffic.
Plastic stakes will be used on the road to mark the road closure for vehicular traffic, according to a city news release.
Traffic will be rerouted into Sun City from Williams Drive via CR 245 and Rocky Hollow Creek Drive, which is set to open Sept. 24 and connect to Pedernales Falls Drive in Sun City.
The road will remain closed for 60 to 90 days; however, emergency vehicles as well as pedestrian and bicycle access will be allowed, according to the release.
After the 60- to 90-day period, the road will be reopened to traffic. At that time the city will re-evaluate traffic on West Majestic Oak Lane and Rocky Hollow Creek Drive for 90 days to determine if there is a need for continued or additional traffic mitigation, according to the release.
