Updated 10:40 p.m., Sept. 12: This story has been updated to add that WellMed currently leases space at the shopping center.

Springtown Center, which has stood largely vacant for more than five years, has leased space to its first new tenants since being purchased by Austin-based development company Endeavor Real Estate Group in late 2014.

EVO Entertainment, which owns an entertainment complex in Kyle, has announced it will open The Spot at the shopping center. Gold’s Gym has also signed on to lease about 42,000 square feet.

The Spot will occupy 34,000 square feet at the shopping center and will feature a six-screen all digital dine-in cinema with luxury recliner seating in all auditoriums, eight lanes of boutique bowling, a large restaurant and bar with a patio, and space to accommodate live music and other events, according to a news release.
“We feel like we have things headed in the right direction. We’re very excited about what we have going on, but also very understanding that there is a lot of work left to do.”

“San Marcos has been home to our company and our family for almost 40 years. We couldn’t be more thrilled to team up with a great partner like Endeavor on this extremely exciting project and give back to the community that’s watched so many movies with us for so many years,” EVO President Mitchell Roberts said.

Roberts family also owns the Texas Cinema and Showplace theaters in San Marcos. He described the concept behind The Spot as “a boutique feel, with a cool atmosphere.” He said he hopes to have The Spot open by late summer 2016.

In July the city of San Marcos and Hays County approved property and sales tax rebate incentives for Endeavor to bring high-quality tenants to the center. In return, Endeavor plans to make up to $27.5 million of investments in the center.

Endeavor Principal Buck Cody said about 112,000 square feet have yet to be leased at the center.

“We feel like we have things headed in the right direction,” Cody said. “We’re very excited about what we have going on, but also very understanding that there is a lot of work left to do.”

Current tenants at the center include Twin Liquors, GNC, WellMed and Bath & Bodyworks.
