Although the election is still more than six months away, Woodlands resident Melanie Bush has announced her candidacy for Position 1 on the Conroe ISD board of trustees.

The election will be held Nov. 4, with Positions 1, 2 and 3 on the ballot this year. The Position 1 incumbent is Mel Brown, whose term expires this year. The Position 2 incumbent is Ray Sanders, while C.J. Haynes previously resigned from Position 3.

"I am running for the CISD school board because I am a concerned parent and taxpayer," Bush said. "Our school district is growing at an amazing rate and I want CISD to be fiscally responsible and expand with a measured growth while continuing our exemplary academic ratings."

Candidates cannot formally file an application for a place on the ballot until August. Bush is the first candidate to announce her plans to seek election to the board this year. Each position carries a four-year term.

Bush is a 2002 graduate of SMU and established her business, Better Bookkeepers, in 2001. The business incorporated in 2010 and since that time, her business has expanded to include nine bookkeepers.

She is a member of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Executive Women's Alliance and Treasurer of the Alden Bridge Village Association.
