Drivers traveling through Magnolia may need to plan for extra time over the next several weeks as a portion of Melton Street remains closed.
What’s happening
Melton Street will be closed between Smith Street and FM 1488 from May 28 through June 26, according to a May 28 notice from the city of Magnolia.
The closure will remain in place day and night during that time.
Why it matters
According to the city, the Texas Department of Transportation said the closure is needed to prepare intersection lights for a planned traffic switch and to stage equipment and materials for upcoming work at the Union Pacific Railroad intersection.
City officials said they received the update from TxDOT at the last minute.
What else
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. The city also reminded drivers to use caution near work zones to help keep crews safe.
