HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in robotic surgery, according to an April 19 press release from HCA Houston Healthcare. The hospital was recognized by the Surgical Review Corp. for meeting nationally and internationally recognized standards in quality of care and patient safety, according to the release.
“HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball has a phenomenal team of physicians, nurses, and clinicians that work together in our goal to provide safe, effective, evidence-based care. This was a rigorous inspection, and one that not all programs undergo," hospital CEO Robert Marmerstein said in the release. “This accreditation further confirms to our community and medical staff that we are a leader in minimally-invasive robotically-assisted surgery and goes on to demonstrate our dedication to the highest standards for patient care, quality and safety.”
The release stated health care organizations undergo an extensive self-assessment and inspection process by the SRC to receive accreditation, including that of physicians, nurses and administrators involved in the accredited program.
The Tomball hospital has three robotic surgery systems, according a the release, with a third added as a result of the Tomball hospital being one of the busiest and most advanced facilities in robotic surgery in the Greater Houston area. With three robotic surgery systems, 30% of the operating room capacity at the hospital is dedicated to robotically assisted surgery, according to the release.
