Q&A: Get to know the candidates running for U.S. Rep. District 8

Why are you running to represent Texas’ 8th Congressional District?

Born in Montgomery County, I was raised in all areas of this district; I know these people and this district. Leaving District 8 for 14 years to serve my country as a Navy SEAL, I am now back home and raising my own family here. I want to serve this community, and representing them in Congress will be a great honor.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district, and how would you address those if elected?

Our "open" border and inflation are the two main issues I hear about from constituents. In Congress, I will fight for hard-hitting immigration reform that has teeth, halting runaway government giveaways and spending, and instituting accountability at all levels of government.

What are general education needs that you would prioritize if elected to Congress?

Education is a state and local issue. I believe the federal government should not be involved in education.

How would you ensure your constituents have access to health care services they need?

We are blessed to have some of the finest medical institutions in the country in our district. Free market policies will help to spread that expertise and accessibility down and into the district. I am also deeply committed to improving veteran health care—both quality and access.

What will you prioritize in Congress to help relieve economic stresses on District 8 residents?

Our government must stop giving away money. Tightening the federal budget and a straightforward energy policy that leads us back to energy independence will stabilize our economy.

Why are you running to represent Texas’ 8th Congressional District?

I believe the best person to represent the regular, hardworking people in the district is a regular, hardworking person. I'm not a politician, and I'm not a Washington insider. I will fight to improve the daily lives of the people in the district. I will be accountable to my constituents.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district, and how would you address those if elected?

Health care: draft legislation to ensure quality health care is affordable to everyone. Public schools: increase school funding. Jobs/infrastructure: I support any jobs bill that can improve the lives of the average American that is living paycheck to paycheck. High speed internet: draft legislation so all constituents have access.

What are general education needs that you would prioritize if elected to Congress?

I would prioritize legislation to raise teacher pay, provide access to resources, ensure all students have access to high speed internet at home, increase funding for the Title 1 program, fund mental health support, increase funding for the Head Start program and incentivize homeschool.

How would you ensure your constituents have access to health care services they need?

Draft legislation to fund hospitals in underserved areas; increase funding for senior assistance services, adult day care and in-home services; reduce cost of prescription drugs; add hearing and vision to Medicaid; fund mobile units that offer cancer screening; and ensure veteran care would be provided at any hospital.

What will you prioritize in Congress to help relieve economic stresses on District 8 residents?

I would fight to raise the minimum wage; [to] add benefits like sick days and paid leave;[for] job training, [to] continue to invest in alternative energy to create jobs throughout our district; [and to] bring jobs back to the U.S. from overseas from growing grain to making prescription drugs.
