Magnolia ISD school board trustee Kelly McDonald announced her candidacy for state Representative for District 3 on Sept. 1 for the 2022 Republican primary election. The seat, currently held by Cecil Bell Jr., covers all of Waller County and part of Montgomery County, including Magnolia and Pinehurst.
“As a committed member of the community, I want to make sure we have someone who is going to be responsive to get things done. I have seen the issues confronting our community, and we need a representative in Austin who [will] be proactive and responsive," McDonald said in a news release. “I have the energy and determination to fight the culture that threatens our society. You will never see me on the sidelines but up front and visible. I will lead and make a positive difference.”
McDonald has served on the MISD board of trustees for six years, having been elected twice. She is also a commissioner of the Montgomery County Housing Authority representing Precinct 2, director of the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park Commission and chair of the government affairs council of the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce, according to the release. McDonald serves as president of the Magnolia Rotary Club as well.
McDonald said her top priorities are lowering the tax burden, advocating for a ceiling on property taxes, supporting law enforcement and veteran services, and providing consistent and responsive communication with community members, according to the release.
