On July 27, Tomball ISD hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of Tomball West High School. The $241 million project was funded through the passed 2021 bond project and originally broke ground in 2022.
A new chapter
The new high school is 531,762 square feet and will host over 850 students for its inaugural class of ninth and 10th graders. The school will be adding a new grade level every year until it eventually becomes a ninth-12th grade facility in 2028-29. The district has seen a large increase in student population growth and is projected to still rise in the coming years. Tomball West High School is the third high school in Tomball ISD.
Mark Lewandowski, Tomball ISD board president, has said that the projected growth is a small part of what makes the new high school so important to the district.
“What makes Tomball remarkable is not simply how much we have grown—it is how we have grown,” Lewandowski said. “Through that growth, we have remained a community that values relationships, believes in public education, supports its students, and comes together to invest in the future.”
The new facility is equipped with a wide variety of academic facilities to support incoming students' educational journey, including fine arts, athletics, technology and career and technical education programs.
Key players
Tomball West High School inaugural principal Kevin Williams also addressed the community at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He said it was an honor to be the first leader of the new high school and that under his leadership, excellence is expected to be the standard for everyone.
“This campus is more than a new building; it is a promise to students, families, and this community that excellence is not just expected here—it is the standard,” Williams said. “At Tomball West High School, excellence will not be an aspiration—it will be our expectation and our daily practice."
TISD Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the school was designed not just for current students, but for future ones as well.
“Tomball West High was thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of not just today's learners but the future, while preparing them to help students as they lead in creating their very own future,” Salazar-Zamora said.
