Mimi’s Ethiopian Cuisine has recently opened its doors in Tomball.
Respecting the craft
The Ethiopian restaurant is owned and operated by Tomball local Meseret Mandafro. The restaurant specializes in Ethiopian classics like red lentils, lamb, beef and doro wat.
Mandafro originally moved to Tomball from Dallas for her husband's career. Over time, the city went from a place she lived to a home where she wanted to open her own restaurant.
“Tomball became more than just a place where we lived—it became our home. I had my child here, built relationships here, and eventually decided that this was the community where I wanted to build my business and serve the people around me.”
Her talent for cooking grew from the work she did as a child, cooking meals for her family after they immigrated to the United States. Taking small steps over the last two years, she has been able to secure a location, obtain permits and gain the experience to open her own restaurant.
“I began to realize that cooking wasn’t just something I did; it was something I truly loved. The more I thought about it, the more I started believing that maybe something special could come from this passion.”
Mimi’s Ethiopian Cuisine is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sundays.
