Montgomery County commissioners will meet on Oct. 8 to discuss a resolution that would support legislation allowing the county to adopt and enforce local ordinances, which counties in Texas do not have the power to do. The resolution would advocate for the ability to adopt and enforce ordinances addressing growth, public safety and infrastructure in Montgomery County's unincorporated areas.
The budget department will also present its monthly 2025 road bond program financial report at the Oct. 8 meeting.
What you need to know
The county is seeking additional regulatory authority because it continues to see rapid growth and demand for better resources such as infrastructure, drainage, utilities and roads, according to the resolution. Data listed in the agenda shows the county is approximately 78% unincorporated, which leaves a major portion of the county without regulatory resources available to municipalities within Montgomery County. A resolution would notify the state legislature that county government supports providing standards to protect public and private property rights while supporting economic growth, according to agenda information.
