Site approved for Tamina Water Plant No. 5

The site for Water Plant No. 5 in Tamina was selected at a city of Shenandoah council meeting May 24. According to a previous report by Community Impact, the water plant is part of an agreement between the city of Shenandoah and the Old Tamina Water Supply Corporation for the city to extend water and sewage service to the Tamina community. The agreement was finalized Dec. 5.

The overview

The city of Shenandoah selected 3 acres at the intersection of Main Street and Tamina Road to include a new water well and plant. According to the May 24 agenda packet and City Council discussion, selection of the site is the first milestone in the design phase.

• The property is large enough to fit a sanitary sewer lift station.
• The new plant will display the Tamina community name.
• Land was donated by the city of Shenandoah, at no cost to the Tamina community.
• No homes will be displaced because construction.

The background

Joseph Peart, city of Shenandoah public works director said the Tamina community water and sewer project is moving forward on schedule. Now that a site has been selected, he said, design of the water distribution system can begin.

Community Impact previously reported that the Tamina community has been trying to get public sewer service since 1999.

• The cost of the new system is $21 million.
• Montgomery County is funding the project through the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
• Shenandoah will be required to construct the water and sewer facilities by Dec. 31, 2026.
• Design services will cost $1.86 million.
• Bleyl Engineering was selected as the design engineer March 8.

The construction completion date is estimated to be October 2026, according to an agenda packet March 8.
