Dumpsters in residential zones will now require a permit, per an ordinance approved at the Oak Ridge North City Council meeting Sept. 26.
The ordinance was drafted following complaints about dumpsters remaining in driveways for long periods of time. For residences that do not have a valid building permit, the requester will be required to pay a $10 fee for a permit that allows the dumpster to remain on the property for 30 days. Residents can purchase two 30-day permits each year.
The ordinance also amended the definition of dumpster to include “large plastic or cloth units meant to hold trash or waste.”
The City Council also approved a new city boundaries map that includes recent annexations and the purchase of two new public works vehicles for a total of $102,089, according to meeting documents.
