The American Bureau of Shipping, a nonprofit marine classification and technical services provider, celebrated the opening of its new global headquarters earlier this month at the CityPlace development in Springwoods Village.
The new ABS facility officially opened its doors at 1701 City Place Drive, Spring, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 8. ABS now occupies all the office space within CityPlace 2, a 10-story, 326,800-square-foot building that also includes 23,700 square feet of retail space. CityPlace 2 is located within the 60-acre CityPlace multi-use development, which also includes a separate 149,600-square-foot office building, a luxury apartment complex, a Marriott hotel as well as dining and retail space. originally reported the ABS deal to occupy CityPlace 2 in 2016.
“This is a significant milestone in our 157-year history and reaffirms our commitment to provide industry-leading safety and practical technology solutions for marine and offshore industry challenges,” ABS chairman, president and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki said in a press release.
“A five-year journey that started as an idea has now culminated in a building reflecting our leadership position and our continued vision for growth. Our building provides open and inviting spaces where we gather with industry partners to collaborate and engage in advancing innovation to directly support our safety mission,” Wiernicki said.
