Zydeco artist Ian Guillory to perform in The Woodlands

I started playing guitar my freshman year of high school, which were prime years for me listening to music and shaping my love of music. [My] first live performance was my freshman year as well, and let's just say it was a learning experience. [I was] so nervous, and everything that could go wrong, did. But I still loved it, and it made me want to get better.

Where are you originally from, and what’s it like being a musician in this community?

I'm originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, which has a lot of different music there. Obviously, soul from the church. And a lot of zydeco and Cajun music was always around. I've made a lot of friends out of playing here. The area has been great, and it's been more word of mouth that I have gotten to play the places I play.

What do you hope listeners feel when they hear your music?

I hope listeners feel a connection when they hear my music. But more than anything, I want it to feel honest—like it’s speaking to something they’ve experienced or felt themselves. Whether it brings comfort, motivation, or just a moment to escape and reflect, I want the music to leave them feeling seen and a little more inspired.
