Sugar Land residents will see a third trail as a part of the city’s 2013 parks bond program.
The big picture
At a July 21 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved a $9.19 million construction contract with B&D Contractors Inc. for Sugar Land Trail Phase 1 from Imperial Park to Lexington Blvd.
The project, which was formally known as the Ditch H trail, will be a 10-foot wide, 3.5-mile concrete trail for bikes and pedestrians along Ditch H, Senior Project Manager Greg Nichols said.

The trail will have incorporated glow stones that absorb light during the daytime and glow at night for 10 hours, Nichols said. The stones have a life expectancy of 20 years and do not require servicing.
The funding
The city has $17.88 million available for the project with funding from the city’s 2013 parks bond, Fort Bend County’s 2021 parks bond and a 2026 Federal Transit Administration grant.
Nichols said the project will still need approximately $300,000 in additional funding for construction administration and construction material testing. City staff will work with the legal and parks departments on projects the remaining $8 million can be used for.

City officials will issue a notice to proceed in August with substantial completion in October 2027, Nichols said.
