Sugar Land will rehabilitate 10 of its bridges this year identified by the Texas Department of Transportation as in need of improvement.
City Council authorized the execution of a $150,000 construction contract with Cedros Paving Service LLC. for bridge rehabilitation during its Nov. 1 meeting.
The Sugar Land Public Works Department maintains 117 bridges and box culverts throughout the city, according to agenda documents. TxDOT inspects all bridges throughout the state every two years to identify maintenance needs, and the city receives a condition rating for each bridge.
TxDOT’s most recent report identified 10 individual bridge structures in Sugar Land in need of some form of improvement to avoid additional deterioration. These improvements can range in scope from new signage, guardrails or delineation to bridge deck joint repairs.
