Sugar Land Town Square redesign to bring more outdoor space, updated storefronts

Sugar Land Town Square owner Lionstone Investments announced a multiphase renovation of the mixed-use development and shopping center in a press release Oct. 14.

The first phase—which is scheduled to be completed in mid-2021—will include additional landscaping, new outdoor spaces and increased public seating as well as updating branding, signage and storefronts, according to the release.

“The vision guiding the evolution of Sugar Land Town Square is to create a lively, walkable village filled with unique merchants, delightful surprises, outdoor communal areas, and authentic expressions of local culture,” Matt Ragan of Dallas-based real estate company and Sugar Land Town Square co-manager Rebees said in the release. “Sugar Land Town Square is the cultural and urban center of the City of Sugar Land, and it will soon honor this role by becoming as vibrant and future-leaning as the city itself."

Additional phases of renovation are to take place over the next two years, although details about these projects were not released.

The redesign will allow residents and tourists the opportunity to interact safely with more communal spaces for social distancing and heightened public programming, the release says.

“For many years, Sugar Land Town Square has served as a hub for community engagement. We are investing aggressively in its future at a time when many other projects are scaling back,” Lionstone Chief Operating Officer Tom Paterson said in the release. “This redesign will create dynamic and flexible spaces for a diversity of uses and users to interact safely.”

Sugar land Town Square was first developed in 2003 as a mix-use hub at the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 6. The square includes business, restaurant and office space as well as a hotel and conference center, Sugar Land City Hall and condominiums.

The effort is a collaboration between Lionstone, Rebees, Sugar Land-based developer Planned Community Developers and the city of Sugar Land. www.sugarlandtownsquare.com
