Amazon donated $20,000 toward building a community garden at the Four Corners Recreation Center, located at 15700 Old Richmond Road, Sugar Land.
Fort Bend County Commissioners Court unanimously accepted the donation during a Sept. 28 meeting. Amazon is opening a fulfillment center, known as the HOU6 location, at 10507 Harlem Road, Richmond.
“Certainly one of the core values of Amazon is community service and outreach, so we’re happy; we’re proud; we're excited to present this check of $20,000 to Fort Bend County,” said Jesse Owens, assistant general manager at the new Amazon facility.
The Four Corners Community Garden will encourage food-insecure families in the area—including those involved in the center’s Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels and YMCA programs—to grow their own produce and will support local food banks, according to a news release from Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ken DeMerchant.
