A team of Sugar Land residents will review the city’s charter for the first time since 2018.
The gist
On Dec. 19, Sugar Land City Council appointed seven Sugar Land residents to the Sugar Land Charter Review Commission to review the charter and evaluate whether it should undergo changes.
The charter functions as the city's constitution and cannot be amended except by voter approval and not more than every two years, according to a news release.
The charter outlines provisions for a council-manager form of government, legislative authority of City Council, general elections provisions, finance provisions and several other areas of Sugar Land’s governance.
