Missouri City's Community Park will see lighting improvements across various sports fields.
The details
The $800,000 project, which began Aug. 3, will retrofit all 36 sports light poles within Community Park using funds from the Missouri City parkland dedication funds, Parks and Recreation Director Donnie Hayes said in an email.

The LED lighting will be 60% more efficient than the current system and will provide opportunities for activating the lighting during celebrations such as home runs, Hayes said.
Why it matters
"These lighting improvements are huge improvement for Community Park and Missouri City," Hayes said. "Their efficiency is important but we are really excited about the maintenance improvements. The costs of the old sodium lighting system was expensive and created significant issues keeping the fields lit and safe for all of our users."
