Missouri City property owners now required to maintain grass and weeds in public rights of way
Missouri City property owners will now be required to maintain grass and weeds along the public right of way.
The updated ordinance—which was approved by City Council on March 2—adds to the previous requirements to remove garbage, debris and rubbish as well as maintaining trees and vegetation in rights of way, said Daniele Stewart, parks and recreation assistance director.
The public right of way includes publicly owned property or areas subject to public easement adjacent to a lot or tract, which is generally between the property line and the back curb or edge of the street pavement, according to the city's website.
Dave & Buster's sets opening date for Sugar Land location
Entertainment venue Dave and Buster's announced a June 15 opening date for its Sugar Land location at 19892 Southwest Freeway in Riverpark Shopping Center, company officials confirmed.
The Dallas-based business brings an arcade games and pool tables as well as a restaurant and sports bar featuring burgers, wings and salads, according to its website. Desserts and alcoholic beverages are also available.
Fort Bend County greenlights TxDOT primacy for Grand Parkway expansion
At a May 14 meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners voted to give the Texas Department of Transportation primacy on Segments C1 and C2, as well as the unbuilt portion of Segment D of the Grand Parkway project.
The vote allows TxDOT to be the primary contact responsible for construction and operation on the 26-mile extension from south Sugar Land to Hwy. 288 near Rosharon, Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said in a May 19 Facebook post. The expansion, which is a part of the proposed 180-mile highway that circles the Greater Houston area, comes at no cost to the county.
Mahesh's Kitchen closes doors in Stafford
Mahesh’s Kitchen shuttered its doors in Stafford at the close of 2025, officials announced in a Dec. 31 Facebook post.
The Indian restaurant, which was located at 11222 Fountain Lake Drive, offered a variety of dishes including kebabs, bhel and rack of lamb, according to its website.
Fort Bend ISD approves employee compensation plan for FY 2026-27
Fort Bend ISD board of trustees approved the fiscal year 2026-27 employee compensation plan at a June 15 meeting, alongside the approval of the district’s budget, which shows a $32.8 million expected shortfall.
Deputy Superintendent of Operations Kathleen Brown said the plan has several initiatives aimed at better retaining and attracting staff, including:
- Differentiated teacher steps
- Teacher retention allotment
- Staff retention allotment
- A thank you supplement
- Bus driver and monitor pay increases
Fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant set to open new location in Sugar Land
Fast-casual Mediterranean eatery Brassica is set to open its second Greater Houston location at 15820 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The Ohio-based restaurant serves Mediterranean flavors and customizable salads, sandwiches and hummus plates, according to its website.
