Fort Bend ISD adjusts final day of 2026-27 school year

Fort Bend ISD students will end this school year one day earlier than planned.

In a nutshell

At a Sept. 28 meeting, the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees voted to change the last day of the 2026-27 school year from May 27 to May 26 to allow all students to complete the school year ahead of four consecutive days of graduation before Memorial Day.

The change comes after the board approved the original calendar in January, followed by venue reservations for graduation at a later date, per agenda documents.

Dates to know

The last day of school will remain an early release day for middle school and high school students, per agenda documents. Meanwhile, May 27 will be a teacher workday.

Other key dates include:

• Fall break: Oct. 12-16

• Thanksgiving break: Nov. 23-27

• Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 5, 2027

• Spring break: March 8-12, 2027

The calendar also includes professional learning and teacher planning days embedded throughout the year, where teachers can complete their required continuing education hours.

Looking forward

Fort Bend ISD officials will provide an overview of the 2027-28 school year calendar development process at the board’s next meeting Oct. 5.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the board room of the Fort Bend ISD Administration Building, located at 16431 Lexington Blvd. in Sugar Land.
