Fort Bend County reported 49 new cases May 30-June 1

Over the weekend, Fort Bend County reported a total of 49 new cases of the coronavirus, 62 additional recoveries and three deaths.

These new numbers bring Fort Bend County’s total case count to 1,881. There are 1,176 active cases, 661 reported recoveries and 44 deaths. Nineteen Fort Bend County residents are hospitalized with the coronavirus.

The deaths of three Fort Bend County residents are the first deaths reported in the county since May 21. Fort Bend County Judge KP George wrote on his Facebook page May 30 that the residents who died were a man in his 70s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s, all with underlying health conditions.

Sugar Land saw 11 new coronavirus cases over the weekend. Over the same time frame, two new coronavirus cases were reported in the Fort Bend County portion of Missouri City, and four were reported in the Harris County portion of the city.

At the ZIP code level, Sugar Land ZIP codes 77498, 77479 and 77478 saw a combined 11 new cases. Missouri City ZIP codes 77459 and 77489 saw a combined four new cases.

During the week ending May 30, Fort Bend County officials reported a total of 176 new coronavirus cases, higher than the totals reported each of the two weeks prior, according to publicly available data on Fort Bend County’s Community Impact Dashboard.

There have been 55,419 coronavirus tests administered in Fort Bend County, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services. With a population of 811,688 people, this means approximately 6.82% of county residents have been tested for the virus.
